The NetHub business accelerator for healthcare technologies and the School of Medicine in Split, in collaboration with ICT County, held the event “Grant Funding Opportunities for Innovative Healthcare Technology Solutions” on December 14, 2021, in the conference hall of the University of Split’s SPINIT Incubator.

The primary goal of the event was to introduce representatives of the private healthcare sector to the various opportunities offered by grant funding in the field of innovative healthcare technology solutions.

At the start of the event, Professor Zoran Đogaš, PhD, Head of the Department of Neuroscience, addressed the participants on behalf of the School of Medicine in Split. After a warm welcome, he emphasized that there is no progress without innovative technological solutions in healthcare. He noted how crucial it is, especially given the conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, to direct the healthcare system toward digitalization while relying on the vast financial potential of available EU grant funds. Damir Brčić, head of ICT County, joined him in highlighting the significant potential of technological innovation for the economic growth of Split-Dalmatia County and its unwavering support for young innovators. He took the opportunity to stress the importance of creating a positive entrepreneurial environment and strengthening capacities for a better future for the local population.

Following the opening remarks, NetHub representative Marko Mimica explained the concept of HealthTech. He highlighted the particular significance of modern technological solutions in the health and social care systems, as well as the available sources of grants for financing the implementation and development of digital health solutions. Next, Associate Professor Petar Šolić, PhD, an expert in sensor technologies and systems, gave a lecture on the possibilities of using low-cost sensors in healthcare, stressing the necessity of linking ICT with healthcare. This was followed by an engaging presentation by entrepreneur Karlo Sudarević, who shared his experiences in developing innovative 3D printing technology for dentistry and implementing the project “Development of Innovative Direct 3D Printing Technology for Mobile Orthodontic Appliances,” co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. Finally, NetHub coordinator Maja Čurković presented the student entrepreneurship practice program being developed at the University of Split, aimed at improving the quality of mentorship and professional internships.
